The 51-year-old actor opened up about grieving his father Dave Robert Shepard, Sr. — who died in 2012 after being diagnosed with small-cell carcinoma, an aggressive cancer — during a conversation with Anderson Cooper at the New Orleans Book Festival at Tulane University last month.
