David Warner joins elite company with 100 appearances in all formats

NEW DELHI: Seasoned Australia opener David Warner achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the first player from his nation to make 100 appearances in all formats of the game.

Warner's landmark was celebrated as he took to the field for Australia's first T20I clash against West Indies on Friday.

Warner's 100th T20I appearance saw him join the ranks of former skipper Aaron Finch (103) and star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell (100) as just the third Australian player to achieve the feat in the shortest format.

Warner now shares the elite company of India's Virat Kohli and New Zealand's Ross Taylor as the only players to represent their countries a hundred times in all formats.

Speaking about the milestone, Warner expressed his thoughts after winning the toss and electing to bowl first.

"We were going to bowl first as well. The wicket looks nice. Generally in the first six, you can give yourself some time. There are some variables with the wind, and one side a bit big," said Warner.

Assuming the toss duty in the absence of Mitchell Marsh, who was in isolation due to Covid-19, Warner remained focused on the team's victory.

"Mitch has taken his mask off today. He's come back alright. If the game was yesterday he wouldn't have been able to play. No Spencer Johnson or Aaron Hardie but it's still six changes from the last T20I Australia played," he added.
