Arsenal and Brentford are in discussions over a fee for David Raya, with the Gunners wanting to strike a deal for just over £20million.
Bees head coach Thomas Frank has already stated that his club want £40m.
Raya is keen to join Arsenal and talks will continue to see if a resolution can be found.
The goalkeeper is in the final year of his contract and will not sign a new one, meaning he could leave for free next summer.
Bayern Munich and Tottenham expressed an interest in Raya earlier this summer but were put off by the asking price. The Bundesliga giants remain interested but their priority is pulling off a move for Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
Arsenal tried to sign Raya in the summer of 2020, when Emi Maritnez left.
The Gunners' goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana has a good relationship with Raya, having worked with him at Brentford.
His arrival at Arsenal would put him in direct competition with England international Aaron Ramsdale for the No1 spot.
If Arsenal were to complete a move for Raya, it would pave the way for USA goalkeeper Matt Turner to leave the club.
Turner is Arsenal No2 and was used in the Europa League and cup competitions last season.Nottingham Forest are interested in him as they look to sign a keeper this month.
