Data analysts forecast comfortable Premier League survival for Leeds United after winter break

FiveThirtyEight have released their latest forecasted predictions for how they expect the Premier League will finish.

The website uses statistical analysis to tell stories about several different topics, including sport, and more specifically the Premier League.

Based on the data presented so far, Leeds United have just an 11% chance of relegation from the Premier League this season.

It expects the Whites to comfortably stave off the threat of relegation, finishing 10 points clear of the bottom three, which will ensure Marcelo Bielsa’s side a third consecutive season of top-flight football.

Leeds are expected to finish above Brentford, Everton, Burnley, Newcastle United, Watford and Norwich City, with the three latter teams predicted to be playing Championship football next term.

The latest set of predictions are as of the latest Premier League game week, meaning that the January window is not taken into account, which could distort the forecasts.

Newcastle in particular may feel hard done by, with the Magpies having brought in Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and Matt Targett during the latter stages of the window, all of which are improvements on their current squad.

Instead, Eddie Howe’s side are expected to finish four points adrift of Burnley in 17 th , who as it stands are bottom of the table.

Elsewhere in the division, Manchester City are expected to seal their fourth Premier League crown in five seasons, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur predicted to make up the rest of the top four.
