Liverpool were 2-0 up and Newcastle were down to 10 men when Jurgen Klopp made a quadruple change. It seems probable Nunez would have been taken off anyway at that point, with Tuesday night's home match against Madrid in mind.
Klopp is likely to give an update on the situation in his post-match press conference following the action this evening.
Nunez had opened the scoring with great control and an emphatic finish following a lovely ball from Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Cody Gakpo doubled the advantage in the first half, finishing neatly after a chipped assist from Mohamed Salah.
