Dai Young believes being Wales coach is not a job for a Welshman at this moment in time.
There is continuing uncertainty over the future of the present incumbent Wayne Pivac, with a WRU review currently going on following a year that has brought just three wins from 12 Test matches.
Increasingly, the speculation is that another Kiwi, Warren Gatland, will be brought back in to take Wales through to the World Cup.

Giving his thoughts on the situation, Cardiff’s director of rugby Young, said: “It’s a tough job and, with everything that’s going on at the minute, it’s probably not a job for a Welshman, to be quite honest with you.
“When you step into that job you have got to go in with most people behind you. In Wales at the minute, we are all going through quite a tough time and I don’t see a Welsh appointment where you would get everybody behind you.
“It’s different when you're coming off the back of Heineken Cup final wins or winning leagues, but at the minute none of us are. There are probably not enough of us with the right accent that’s going to tick all the boxes.”
As for whether he would be keen on the job himself, the highly experienced Young replied: “To be honest with you, it’s not something that interests me at all and I’m not just saying that as a ‘Come and get me’ signal.
“I am really enjoying what I am doing at Cardiff. I have got a huge project that I’ve undertaken here. I don’t really feel like I’m at the start line of what I’m doing here yet with all the things that have been going on.
“I am 100 per cent committed and really enjoying what I am doing at Cardiff. That’s my only focus.
“As far as I am concerned, Wayne is the Welsh coach and I will back him 100 per cent as somebody who has worked in his system. If somebody else steps into that, I will back him 100 per cent. It’s certainly not a job for me.”
