A dad who spent £900 on petrol making the 35-mile journey to visit his premature born daughter in a Glasgow hospital has backed calls for legislation to support families of premature children.
Liam Thompson and his wife Hazel made daily car journeys for six weeks from Irvine in Ayrshire to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow to visit their daughter Sadie, who was born 15 weeks early on July 30.
Sadie weighed just 1.4lbs at birth and the couple were told by doctors that she had only a 45% chance of survival, reports the Daily Record. She was kept in the neonatal intensive care unit at the QEUH and the parents were left forking out almost a grand in petrol just to visit their newborn daughter.
