Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy dedicates Britney Spears song to Tories at Labour TikTok party with Will Young

The Culture Secretary ended Labour Party conference on a high note with a DJ set celebrating Britney Spears and a special dedication to the Conservatives.

Lisa Nandy got behind the decks at the UKMusic and TikTok party in Liverpool on Tuesday night following a performance by Pop Idol winner Will Young.

The government minister said she was putting the “party back in the Labour party” before launching into an array of songs by “the greatest cultural icon of the last 20 years” for a crowd of Labour students.

“If you don’t like Britney Spears, get out of my nightclub,” she told the throng of spectators, before adding: “It’s Nandy bitch” - a nod to the pop princess’s hit “Gimme More”.

The last song in the “Britney power hour” was dedicated to the “poor old Tories”, Ms Nandy said before spinning the American star’s 2003 hit “Toxic”.

Her set was followed by Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar, who took part in a dance off on stage with Islington South MP Emily Thornberry.

Ex-Labour general secretary David Evans and Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin also took to the decks during the night.

Ms Nandy said: “I am totally overwhelmed. I’m never speechless. This is incredible. I’m standing here Will Young, you guys, putting the party back into the Labour party and it’s my actual job.

“It’s not a moment for seriousness. We have worked so hard to get to this moment. We are going to have one hell of a party.”

She added: “Unlike the Tories we have never believed that arts and culture and music and sport belong to only a few of us.

“They belong to us all.

“But it’s not a night for speeches. It’s a night for fun. We are going to start with the greatest cultural icon of the last 20 years.

“If you don’t like Britney Spears, get out of my nightclub. It’s Nandy bitch.”
