Cristian Romero has been spotted with strapping on his knee after the Tottenham captain was ruled out for the remainder of the season following his collision with Antonin Kinsky.

The Argentine, who is expected to be out for between six to eight weeks, was seen walking through London with his right knee heavily bandaged in a video posted to social media.

Romero left the pitch in tears after he was withdrawn, following lengthy treatment, 70 minutes into Spurs’ 1-0 defeat away to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

In Roberto De Zerbi’s first game as manager, his side fell to their seventh defeat in eight league games, leaving them two points from safety in their bid for Premier League survival.

Nordi Mukiele’s deflected effort gave Sunderland the lead, and matters were made worse shortly after when Romero had to come off after he appeared to be pushed into goalkeeper Kinsky by Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey.

Speaking about Romero’s injury after the game, De Zerbi said: “Maybe yes [it is a knee injury], but I don’t want to say anything until we know more.

“We don't know yet [the extent of the injury].

“We have to see in the next few days. I hope it's not an important problem because he's a crucial player for us.

“A good guy, a top player, big personality, and we need him to finish the season and to achieve our goal.”

De Zerbi has already lost Mohammed Kudus in an injury setback in his recovery from a serious quad injury last week.

The Ghanaian is not expected to play again this season, as Spurs assess whether he should undergo surgery.

Spurs host Brighton this weekend desperately looking for their first win of the calendar year.
