Craigneuk residents are being given the chance to influence how North Lanarkshire Council money is spent in their area as part of a pilot initiative.
The Participatory Budgeting (PB) Initiative is aimed at encouraging residents to play a greater role in spending decisions.
For the pilot, residents are being asked for ideas focused on improving the health and wellbeing of local people in Craigneuk.
Craigneuk councillor, Labour’s Kenneth Duffy, said: “Residents are at the heart of everything we do, and we are keen to hear ideas for projects to improve health and wellbeing of local people.
“I’d encourage as many of you as possible to take part in this pilot budgeting initiative.
“It’s your chance to use your voice, and get your opinions heard on how council money is spent in your area.”
NLC Community Partnership Team received four ideas from local organisations. The proposal with most two votes will receive a grant of £1000 with runners up each receiving £500.
Anyone aged over eight years old can vote.
Fellow Craigneuk councillor, the SNP’s Agnes Magowan added: “Everything the council does should be for the people who live in North Lanarkshire and they must have a voice, including seldom heard voices, as to how the participatory budget should be spent.
“The vibrant community of Craigneuk have shown that they are willing to raise funding themselves to support their community.
“An example of this is the annual Christmas Tree and the Santa Dash they funded at Christmas with a little help from the four councillors.
“They are the people who know their community best and I hope they will all take the chance to vote for what they think would be best for their community of which I know they are all proud.”
