June is usually the dead period of the NFL. Some teams are wrapping up OTAs and mini-camps, but there isn’t a ton of action or news that will happen over the next six weeks.
However, it is a time when teams take a look at their roster and consider making trades. And the Raiders have been one of the most active teams in the trade market since Dave Zigler joined the franchise last year. So could the Raiders consider making another trade before the 2023 season?
In a recent article by Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report, he took a look at seven off-season moves that could still happen. One of the moves was the Raiders trading away Hunter Renfrow this offseason. Here is a snippet of why Moton believes that is possible:
The Las Vegas Raiders acquired players who could make Hunter Renfrow expendable this year. They added multiple slot receivers, signing Jakobi Meyers and DeAndre Carter then selecting Tre Tucker in the third round of the draft.
Among the three, Meyers seems like a lock to play a major role because of his three-year, $33 million contract and experience in head coach Josh McDaniels’ offensive system from his time with the New England Patriots.
The Raiders already have a ton of money tied up into their receiving corps with Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers, so this does make some sense. Plus, the expectation is that Meyers could see a lot of time in the slot during the 2023 season.
What’s the market like for Renfrow coming off a poor 2022 season? That is a bit of an unknown, but you can bet that several teams would be interested if the Raiders put him on the trade block. While we aren’t predicting that a trade will happen, it would make logical sense for the Raiders to explore a move over the summer.
