Coronation Street star Ryan Prescott has teased a 'darker' side to his character Ryan Connor.
The actor was part of a horrifying and harrowing storyline, which saw his character hit with acid when Daisy's evil stalker Justin tried to target her in the Rovers Return on her wedding day.
Ryan ended up being hit by the acid and he has been struggling with the long term effects of what had happened. He tried to connect with Crystal but Daisy had been impersonating her as she had been unable to tell Ryan that Crystal wanted nothing to do with him.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror at the British Soap Awards last night, he said: "When you’ve been through something so traumatic, you end up holding onto anything you can and that’s what Ryan's been doing.
"He does it with Alya, he does it with Crystal, he does it with Daisy. Then he finds himself attaching to Daisy who is pretending to be Crystal. It kind of leads him down a darker road after the humiliation, especially with Daisy being one of the only real relationships he has at the moment. It takes him to the next phase of his denial. It’s not like he’s over it."
He added: "There’s that edge of reality and for people who’ve been through this, it’s a life long battle to get through it."
In Friday's episode, Ryan and Daisy shared a brief kiss - but he has also been romantically involved with Alya too.
Asked if there could be a future for Ryan and Alya, he shared: "Who knows? Ryan is in a place in his life where he really wants to be loved and not everyone can do that for him. He’ll always have a place in his heart for Alya."
Ryan had previously told The Mirror and other press that his character's life will "change forever".
He explained: "He's started see life will never be the same again, in which he's kinda of trying to reach out and clutch on to whatever he can within his life that will allow him to deny this reality. One of them being Alya, this new love interest Crystal. As he sees these things slipping away he tries to reach out and grab a hold of them in desperation, but I think he knows."
