Coronation Street favourite Jennie McAlpine says filming Fiz’s wedding to Phill was so nerve-racking she shut her eyes to walk down the aisle.
In real life the actress, 38, married Chris Farr with just their son Albert and two witnesses present.
But in the soap Fiz has gone for a “posh do” as she attempts to tie the knot with Phill, played by Jamie Kenna.
Speaking ahead of the wedding scenes airing next week, Jennie said: “Do I love being the centre of attention and walking down the aisle and everyone looking at me? Oh my God – no. I think I might have had my eyes shut at that bit.
“I’ve not loved it. You’re talking to someone who, in real life, just eloped and went off and got married, just me and my husband. All that fuss and all that messing about... when Fiz was saying, ‘It’s doomed, I shouldn’t have had this big wedding,’ I was thinking, ‘Yeah, you shouldn’t!’”
Jennie said she chose the dress Fiz wore by trying on lots. “I said no, that one doesn’t fit, no, no, no, no and then we were down to the only one that I didn’t say no to.”
But one thing after another seems to go wrong, as first Phill’s ex Camilla turns up suggesting she wants him back. Then the registrar has been cancelled.
And that is on top of Tyrone declaring his undying love for Fiz, on whom he cheated with Alina Pop. Jennie said: “When he says he still loves her it’s not a total shock because he’s been making it pretty obvious for the past few weeks.
“But the timing is pretty lousy. She still wants to marry Phill.
“She’d go back to the Tyrone before Alina but that’s not going to happen so this is the future. It could be worse.”
Fans are speculating Fiz won’t go through with it. But Jennie is tight-lipped, saying only: “I’m ready for her to make a choice.”
