Part of what has made Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp one of the best quarterback-receiver duos in the NFL since they became teammates in 2021 is their chemistry. They quickly developed a strong connection on and off the field three years ago when they watched film together every morning, which they called the “Breakfast Club.”
During those film sessions, they would enjoy a cup of coffee while breaking down game tape and preparing for their next opponent. At one point, they decided to treat themselves by splurging on a coffeemaker. Only, the coffeemaker they apparently splurged on was a used, refurbished unit from some random website.
The purchase went about as poorly as you would’ve imagined, with the coffee grounds growing mold – mold that Kupp calls some the weirdest he’s ever seen. He shared the full story of their purchase on the newest episode of “Daily Grind.”
“Matthew’s played in the NFL for a long time. Multiple contracts and stuff. So we’re like, we’re going to splurge and we’re going to split a secondhand, reused, refurbished coffeemaker. I could not even tell you what website we got this thing from. But it was from the deep, dark web. That’s where we started pulling our coffee from. Walk into the QB room, boom. Turn on the computer. Boom, log in. Turn on the projector, start the coffee machine, do my reading in the morning. By the time I’m done with my reading, coffee’s done. Jump into film. It was great. Until, what ended up happening is some of the weirdest mold I’ve ever seen started growing from the coffee grounds out of this machine. We stopped using it. once the mold showed up, we were like, OK, this janky coffee machine came from somewhere not on this earth and has been trying to infiltrate and destroy our facility from inside itself somewhere. So we stopped using it once that started happening. Now, Dodo Coffee is now in the Rams facility.”
Let this be a lesson that if you want to treat yourself to something nice, don’t buy a used coffeemaker off a sketchy website.
