Conor Benn will look to make another statement on Saturday night when he defends his WBA Continental Welterweight Championship against a tough opponent Chris van Heerden at the AO Arena in Manchester on Saturday night (April 16). The South African has previously fought Errol Spence Jr and gave the American star a tough fight whilst being on a five win streak.
Benn remains undefeated in his 20 fights and secured an impressive knockout win over former world champion Chris Algieri last time out in December with an overhand right leaving his opponent down for the count. He currently holds top ten rankings with the WBA, WBO and IBF after notching three wins during a breakout 2021.
Although he may not have received the fight he'd have been hoping for against Kell Brook or Chris Eubank Jr, he'll be facing a top opponent in the South African van Heerden. Benn has spoken on wanting to fight Brook ever since his victory over Amir Khan in February, whilst his and Eubank's father, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr, had a highly-publicised rivalry in the 90's with the two fighting out a draw at Old Trafford in 1993.
