GUWAHATI: The police on Monday morning arrested several Congress leaders and workers in Guwahati while they were trying to take out a protest march against the summoning of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the National Herald case.
Leader of opposition in state assembly, Debabrata Saikia said they were marching to the ED office here when they were arrested by the police.
“ED has summoned Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in a fabricated case. The case dates back to 2015 and our both the leaders were acquitted by the court. There was no involvement of money in this case,” Saikia said.
He said that the Assam government has prevented a democratic protest by arresting them, which has taken away the rights of citizens in a democratic country.
