Colts downgrade QB Anthony Richardson to doubtful vs. Jaguars

On Friday’s injury report, the Indianapolis Colts had quarterback Anthony Richardson listed as questionable with an oblique injury that he suffered against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Saturday afternoon, the team announced that Richardson has been downgraded to doubtful.

Richardson practiced in a limited capacity all week, although from the sounds of it, that wasn’t ever going to be a factor in whether or not he played on Sunday. Rather the decision was going to come down to how Richardson felt and if he could look like his usual self on the football field.

Without Richardson, that means that Joe Flacco will get the start. Filling in for Richardson for much of last week’s game, Flacco was efficient, completing 16-of-26 passes and he took care of the football.

In addition to that, Flacco led some key scoring drives in the second half, scoring a touchdown and then a field goal on back-to-back possessions to help stay ahead of the Steelers, who were making a run.

In addition to likely not having Richardson on offense, the Colts already ruled out Jonathan Taylor. This could, however, be a more pass-heavy approach for the Colts as they face a Jaguars defense allowing just 3.9 yards per carry but 7.7 yards per pass, which ranks 30th this season.
