Colorado Dentist Accused Of Murder Also Plotted Detective's Killing

An undercover U.S. law enforcement officer is handed $15,000 in murder plot in New York

A Colorado dentist, James Craig, who is accused of murdering his wife by poisoning her protein shake, is now facing two additional felony charges. These charges include solicitation to commit first-degree murder, as revealed in a court filing by prosecutors with the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. The new charges stem from an alleged plot by Craig to kill an Aurora police detective who investigated the case.

According to the complaint, Craig attempted to convince a fellow inmate to carry out the murder. While the document does not disclose the intended target, Aurora police confirmed that it was one of the detectives involved in the investigation. Craig had previously pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and other charges related to the death of his wife, Angela Craig.

The arrest warrant affidavit for Angela Craig revealed that she complained of severe headaches and dizziness before being declared medically brain dead. Investigators found that James Craig had made searches on his work computer for undetectable poisons and information on lethal doses of substances like arsenic.

Further suspicions arose when Angela Craig texted her husband about feeling drugged after consuming a protein shake. Despite James Craig denying any involvement, investigators discovered that he had ordered potassium cyanide to be sent to his dental practice, raising concerns among his business partners.

Following Angela Craig's death, James Craig expressed reluctance to have an autopsy performed. However, an autopsy revealed that she had ingested lethal doses of cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, with arsenic poisoning listed as a significant condition contributing to her death.

As the case unfolds, Craig's defense attorney withdrew from the case, citing ethical concerns. The judge approved the attorney's request to leave, leading to the postponement of jury selection for the trial. Craig's next court hearing is scheduled for December 16, pending the appointment of new legal representation.
