A Stapleford branch of the Post Office will not be returning to the town for the foreseeable future after the previous postmaster resigned. The facility on Derby Road first closed last July after the resignation, which also saw the postmaster withdrawing their premises for Post Office use.
Since that time, the company has been looking at options to restore a service to customers in the area. But despite receiving local interest from people willing to take it on, the Post Office has now confirmed it is "not currently able to progress" any options for a service restoration.
The news has been confirmed in a letter from Richard Clark, the Network Provision Lead for the Post Office, published on Wednesday (July 12). Mr Clark says: "The vacancy in Stapleford has been advertised on our website and a member of the field team has also personally visited the area.

"I can confirm that whilst we have had some local interest, we are not currently able to progress any options to restore a Post Office service locally. Post Office is facing a particularly challenging period, as are other high street retailers, with the impact of rising costs, inflation and restrictions on our funding from Government.
"We will continue to evaluate Post Office service provision in the area. We would of course consider any appropriate options if there are any significant changes in the area in the future.
"However due to the length of time the branch has been closed, we would need to satisfy ourselves that any new opportunity would be sustainable for both Post Office Ltd and the operator." Shoppers previously said they were "devastated" when hearing about the initial closure of the branch last year.
The nearest alternative Post Office is based on Montrose Court in Stapleford. Another nearby branch is based on Derby Road in Bramcote.
