A man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was stabbed at a Cliftleigh home overnight in what police believe was a targeted attack.
Emergency services rushed to the Grevillea Street home about 1.20am on Saturday after reports of a home invasion.
Hunter Valley Police District officers were told a man forced his way into the home through the front door and stabbed a 30-year-old man in the abdomen before fleeing the scene.
The man was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A 33-year-old woman, who was home at the time, escaped any injuries.
Police are still searching for the man believed to be responsible for the violent attack.
