Cliftleigh man fighting for life in hospital after targeted home invasion

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was stabbed at a Cliftleigh home overnight in what police believe was a targeted attack.

Emergency services rushed to the Grevillea Street home about 1.20am on Saturday after reports of a home invasion.

Hunter Valley Police District officers were told a man forced his way into the home through the front door and stabbed a 30-year-old man in the abdomen before fleeing the scene.

The man was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A 33-year-old woman, who was home at the time, escaped any injuries.

Police are still searching for the man believed to be responsible for the violent attack.

A crime scene has been established and police inquiries into the incident continue.

Police have urged anyone with information, or who may have dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area around the time of the incident, to contact Cessnock Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
