City centre bar announces monthly movie nights with Eurovision twist

A city centre bar has announced they will be hosting monthly movie nights, kicking off with a Eurovision theme.

Arts Bar Baltic has announced they will be hosting a monthly movie night. It is promising to showcase a variety of films, including cult classics, modern blockbusters and sing along favourites.

The Arts Bar team moved into what was the old Baltic Social unit on Parliament Street just over a month ago. The venue hosts a range of events from single launches, art classes, makers markets, open mics, jazz nights and more. This follows on from the success of their first venture on Hope Street, which opened in July 2019.

The first of the monthly events begins as the city is swept by Eurovision fever. Therefore, the bar will be showing the musical film Mamma Mia! in its sing-along version on Sunday, May 7 and entry is totally free.

Guests are invited to join in on the fun and sing their hearts out to ABBA's greatest hits, dressed up, dressed down and even in ABBA costume. Owner Alex Medlicott said: "Whether you're a die-hard ABBA fan, getting in the mood for Eurovision or just looking for a fun night out, our sing-along version of 'Mamma Mia!' is the perfect way to enjoy a night out with family and friends.”

The event will not just be a one-off for Eurovision. Alex said: “As a venue, we are passionate about bringing our community together and hosting events and projects that offer a platform to do just that. Our monthly movie nights will not only be a fun way to spend your evening but we will be encouraging community connections, offering loyalty cards to those who attend multiple events and discounts to those who live in the immediate area.”

Arts Bar has said they are proud to be a creative hub, showcasing local art, live grassroots music, networking events and more. Both venues will play host to a wide variety of events over the next few weeks when Eurovision comes to town.

Alex said: “As many others are, we are so excited for Eurovision. You can already feel the buzz in the city.

He added: “We will be hosting some great events in both venues over the next couple of weeks. Down at the Baltic we have a live band playing nothing but Eurovision classics, a Drag quiz, late night DJ sets and so much more. Up at Hope Street we have art classes and live music as well as an event we are particularly proud to host.

Arts Bar Baltic will also be raising awareness about Ukraine. This includes hosting an exhibition featuring the work of an artist who was living in Ukraine with his wife until his life was turned upside down.

Aram’s free exhibition will run from May 5 to May 7 from 12pm until 5pm each day. It will showcase a selection of paintings and sketches, old and new, that represent Aram fully as an artist.

Alex said: “While we all get swept up in Eurovision fever, it is important that we all remember why we are hosting it at all. Whilst people join us for events, our venues will be promoting charities that support the crisis in Ukraine, raising awareness and taking donations. Please do what you can to support those in need.”

Both venues will be hosting free Eurovision viewing parties, with live entertainment, huge screens, late night DJ’s and more. Tables are almost fully booked, so make sure you get in contact to book.
