The conversation shed light on Nolan's initial nervousness about meeting Downey and his subsequent admiration for the actor.
Downey had previously alluded to a meeting with Nolan regarding the role of Scarecrow in the Batman franchise. Although Downey had sensed that he would not be offered the role, Nolan confirmed this during their conversation with The New York Times. Nolan explained, 'I 100 percent knew you weren’t the guy. In my head that was already cast. But I always wanted to meet you.'
