Chinese buffet and Lidl raided by burglar as police name suspect

Police have today named a man who is suspected of being behind a string of burglaries at businesses across the city.

Philip Jones, 40, was arrested on Tuesday, August 9, and has now been charged with multiple offences after a series of businesses were broken into. They include Lidl on St Mary’s Road in Garston, which was targeted by a burglary in March, in which alcohol and a blender were stolen.

Jones was also charged with burglary of The Chinese Buffet on Speke Road in Garston on February 21, in which alcohol and cash were stolen. He has also been charged for robbery of cash from a victim on Warwick Street in Toxteth on Monday, August 8, and possession of a bladed article during this incident.

The 40-year-old from Garston appeared at South Sefton Complex Case Adult Remand Court on Wednesday, August 10. He has been remanded into custody for trial at Liverpool Crown Court on September 7.

The full list of offences Jones has been charged with are as follows:

- Burglary of The Chinese Buffet in Speke Road, Garston on Monday, February 21, in which alcohol and cash was stolen
- Burglary of Lidl, St Mary’s Road, Garston in March in which alcohol was stolen, along with a blender
- Burglary of Woodcutters Club, Chesterton Street, Garston in which alcohol and cash was stolen
- Robbery of cash from a victim in Warwick Street, Toxteth on Monday 8 August
- Possession of a bladed article in above incident
