What’s new: Zhang Jianchun, a deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party, has been put under investigation by the country’s top graft busters.
Zhang is being probed for suspected “severe violations of discipline and law,” the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision said in a one-line statement Friday. The term for the allegations is official jargon for corruption.
Background: Zhang, 59, was appointed as deputy head of the publicity department in 2020.
He had previously worked for the party’s Organization Department since 2016 and was named deputy head of the department in late 2018.
