Chiefs release updated depth chart for Week 10

The Kansas City Chiefs have released of their latest “unofficial” depth chart ahead of the Week 10 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

There aren’t any changes to the depth chart this week, despite some recent changes seen during games. Generally speaking, these are intended to give a rough idea of where a player is on the depth chart, but they’re not always entirely accurate. They’re considered “unofficial” because they’re assembled by the team’s PR staff and not the coaching staff and they might not always reflect what happens on game day as a result of that. It’s intended to be a fluid document that evolves as the roster changes throughout the season.

With all of that in mind, let’s take a look at the latest depth chart (dated Nov. 8) and see what we can learn about the Chiefs:

Offense

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports
Pos. First Second Third Fourth
QB Patrick Mahomes Chad Henne Shane Buechele
RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire Jerick McKinnon Isiah Pacheco Ronald Jones
FB Michael Burton
TE Travis Kelce Noah Gray Jody Fortson
WR JuJu Smith-Schuster Skyy Moore Kadarius Toney
WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling Mecole Hardman Justin Watson
LT Orlando Brown Jr. Geron Christian Prince Tega-Wanogho
LG Joe Thuney Nick Allegretti
C Creed Humphrey Nick Allegretti
RG Trey Smith Nick Allegretti
RT Andrew Wylie Darian Kinnard

Observations:

  • Isiah Pacheco is still listed third on the depth chart despite making two consecutive starts. Jerick McKinnon has been the snap leader at running back in each of the past two games, but he’s listed behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
  • Kadarius Toney earned a start in Week 9, but his role is still quite fluid as he learns the playbook and builds chemistry with Patrick Mahomes.

Defense

SLB Leo Chenal Jack Cochrane
LCB L’Jarius Sneed Joshua Williams Chris Lammons
RCB Trent McDuffie Jaylen Watson Nazeeh Johnson
FS Juan Thornhill Deon Bush
SS Justin Reid Bryan Cook

Observations:

  • Even before Jaylen Watson was hurt, Joshua Williams saw a few snaps at the outside cornerback spot. The team seems to have the plan to rotate Williams and Watson in three cornerback looks.
  • Trent McDuffie returned to a full share of snaps in his first game back from injury.

Special teams

Pos. First Second Third Fourth
P Tommy Townsend
K Harrison Butker
LS James Winchester
H Tommy Townsend
PR Mecole Hardman Skyy Moore
KR Isiah Pacheco Skyy Moore

Observations:

  • Mecole Hardman got some opportunities on the punt return unit this week with four returns. Justin Watson, who is not listed on the depth chart, was involved in what Andy Reid described as a “trick” play on a punt return.
  • Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney did not have any punt return snaps in Week 9.
