Chennai: Minitruck mows down pedestrian, injures two

CHENNAI: A pedestrian was killed, while a two-wheeler rider and a cyclist were injured after a minitruck hit them near Egmore on Tuesday night. The truck driver has been arrested.

The deceased, P Ravi, 53, of Nanmangalam was an electrician at the Institute of Child Health in Egmore and the injured were identified as K Sekar, 28, a bike rider from Triplicane and R Manush, a cyclist from Purasawalkam.

The accident happened around 7.40 pm when the truck tried to take Gandhi-Irwin Road from Dr Nair bridge. Driver K Moorthi, 53, suddenly lost control and knocked down a pedestrian crossing the road.

The truck did not stop there but also hit a bike rider and a cyclist before coming to a halt. As the accident happened in the full view of the public, the fellow road users alerted the police control room and the injured were rushed to the hospital. tnn
