Chelsea ace Christian Pulisic was at the heart of a thumping USMNT win on Friday night.
Pulisic starred for his country in a 7-1 rout of Grenada in a Concacaf Nations League game, setting up four goals while scoring one for himself. The USMNT are now top of Group D ahead of Monday's game against El Salvador before club action returns.
Ricardo Pepi bagged the US' first after four minutes before Leeds United pair Brenden Aaronson and Weston McKennie put their country 3-0 up inside 31 minutes. Myles Hippolyte pulled one back for Grenada but McKennie netted shortly afterward in the 34th minute in a manic three-minute spell of action that saw three goals.
Pulisic scored four minutes after half-time to further extend the US' lead before Pepi and Alejandro Zendejas rounded off the scoring. While the quality of the opposition must be taken into account, Pulisic finding form again will be a pleasing sight for Chelsea fans and boss Graham Potter.
Indeed, US Soccer fans were delighted to see Pulisic playing so well and the media in his country were left dazzled by his display too. Pulisic's five-star showing comes amid plenty of speculation around what the future may hold for the Pennsylvania native.
It is widely acknowledged that Pulisic could depart Stamford Bridge this summer with owner Todd Boehly looking to recoup some of the £600 million spent on players across the past couple of transfer windows. With Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk and Joao Felix arriving in January, competition for places is even more fierce than it was before and Pulisic could opt to move on to further his own career with Real Madrid, Manchester United and Newcastle United all said to be interested in signing the 24 year-old.
There was talk that Pulisic could move on in January, but injury quickly put that to an end and Potter said it was never on the cards anyway. "No chance, no - there was never any consideration of anything about that anyway but he's a couple of months," Potter said.
"He's disappointed but he's optimistic that he can come back quicker than the two months so he's in that phase where he's just trying to keep his fingers crossed and hopefully his rehab goes well."
