New Chelsea technical director Christopher Vivell believes the club boast the “most exciting project in global football”.
Chelsea have confirmed Vivell’s appointment, in another big step forward for new owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali in their rapid Stamford Bridge overhaul.
Vivell left RB Leipzig abruptly in October, and has now had his new role with the Blues confirmed.
"Chelsea are building the most exciting project in global football and I’m extremely proud to be joining the club,” said Vivell.
“There is so much potential for the club to continue to succeed, develop and grow. Under the new ownership, Graham Potter and the broader sporting team, there is a clear and sustainable philosophy underpinned by performance analysis, data and innovation, and I am looking forward to playing a part in that.”
Vivell’s official appointment represents the latest step in a major revamp of Chelsea’s off-field structure under new owners Boehly and Eghbali.
The Blues will continue to seek a sporting director, but have already secured the services of the highly-regarded Joe Shields from Southampton as co-director of recruitment and talent.
Vivell will help bridge the gap between the pitch and the board room, working alongside manager Potter and his own recruitment specialist Kyle Macaulay.
Chelsea have been in search of a new technical director since Petr Cech opted to leave the club in June, as Boehly and Eghbali continued to put their stamp on Stamford Bridge after taking the helm from Roman Abramovich.
“We are delighted that Christopher is taking up this important leadership role at the club,” said Blues owners Boehly and Eghbali in a joint statement.
“His work in Germany and Austria speaks for itself. We are confident he will continue on his impressive trajectory here at Chelsea.
“He will provide important support to Graham and the ownership group and play a vital part in advancing our overall vision for the club.”
