With hopes of a Premier League title charge slim to none for Chelsea this season, there’s two competitions that Thomas Tuchel will be hoping his side can win silverware in. The Blues booked their place into the final four of the FA Cup on Saturday as they overcame Championship side Middlesbrough, while they also progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League after beating Lille.
The draw for the European title then picked Thomas Tuchel’s men to face Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in a rematch of last season’s semi-final that went the way of Chelsea. The German coach then went on to win the Champions League in an impressive end to the season for the Blues.
But Los Blancos may provide a different threat this time around, with the likes of Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema finding form this season. Speaking ahead of the match against Middlesbrough, Tuchel discussed the tie with the Madrid side and said: “Tough one. The challenge can not be much higher than playing the second leg in the Bernabeu with spectators. It's a big challenge but there is bit excitement around this match and fixture. We know what's coming. It will be an exciting match and a tough challenge.
