Chelsea news: Six bidders in frame as Jose Mourinho looks to take advantage of uncertainty

There are six major bidders in the frame to become the next owners of Chelsea.

The club was put up for sale by billionaire Roman Abramovich following Russia's invasion of Ukraine prior to sanctions being imposed on the Blues owner by the UK government. American merchant bank Raine Group who are currently overseeing the sale of the Stamford Bridge outfit and will now go through the offers before selecting their preferred bidder.

It comes as former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho looks to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding the club with a second transfer swoop in successive summers following the signing of Tammy Abraham. And the FA has confirmed talks to allow Chelsea fans the chance to purchase tickets to the FA Cup semi-final.

FA Cup talks

The FA has confirmed it is in talks with the UK Government to allow Chelsea fans the opportunity to purchase tickets to attend the club's FA CUp semi-final against Crystal Palace.

Chelsea are currently operating under a special license due to the sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich as they are not allowed to process any financial transactions. That has plunged the club into a state of crisis, with the Blues requesting their FA Cup tie with Middlesbrough on Saturday evening be played behind closed doors to ensure 'sporting integrity' as they couldn't sell tickets to their fans before later withdrawing that request.

And after the club breezed into the semi-final thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Hakim Ziyech, talks are underway there isn't a repeat of that debacle.

Six bidders in the frame

A new bid has been made for Chelsea, taking the number of major bidders hoping to become the club's next owner to six.

London-based asset management firm Centricu has made an offer for the club, and announced plans to keep club director Marina Granovskaia at the club – unless it that is deemed inappropriate given her own ties to Roman Abramovich. The Centricu bid also has the support of Cheyne Capital hedge fund manager Jonathan Lourie and Talis Capital’s Bob Finch.

Mourinho plots second Chelsea swoop

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to follow up on his transfer success following the signing of Tammy Abraham with another move for a Blues player this summer.

Abraham entered the AS Roma history books last weekend as he broke the record for most goals scored during a debut season for the club, overtaking legends such as Gabriel Batistuta and Vincenzo Montella. And with the future of all of Chelsea's squad now up in the air following the sanctions imposed on the club, Mourinho is reportedly eyeing a deal for another Blues ace.
