Chelsea eye £16.2m Jules Kounde alternative as Thomas Tuchel plans summer transfer spree

It could be yet another busy transfer window for Chelsea this summer.

The Blues have a number of first-team players with uncertain futures, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen all out of contract this summer and the trio don't look likely at this stage to commit their long term futures to the club.

With that in mind, it's expected that manager Thomas Tuchel will attempt to strengthen his backline with individuals who are tailored to his style of football.

The likes of Jules Kounde have been heavily linked with a move to west London, but recent reports suggest that Chelsea are interested in acquiring Brighton defender Adam Webster.

The former Bristol City centre-half has been in fine form under manager Graham Potter and when analysing his profile, it's a potential signing that would make a lot of sense.

Webster is comfortable in both a back four or back three and thrives in providing ball progression under pressure and excels in applying accurate aggression in winning the ball back in advanced areas, thereby ensuring that control is regained for his team.

These aspects are essential qualities for a possession-based team, hence why it's not a surprise to see the 27-year-old linked with a move to Chelsea.

According to transfermarkt, Webster is valued at £16.2 million, but given the fact that he's English and still has four years left on his current deal, Brighton will certainly demand a significantly higher fee, especially when considering that the Seagulls demanded £50 million from Arsenal for Ben White, who is having an excellent season for the Gunners.
