Chelsea and Manchester United look set to battle it out in the transfer market this summer as the two teams look to continue building under their current projects. The two sides are among a number of teams looking to bolster their midfields in the upcoming window, with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City all linked with top targets.
The Blues were ahead of the curve when splashing out a British record transfer fee for Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in January, ensuring they weren't drawn into a battle for their ideal signing in the coming months. The spending is unlikely to continue in that fashion, as confirmed by Graham Potter.
"I don’t think the spending will continue as it has," the head coach said after the January transfer window. "There was a regeneration that needed to happen, which the club has done. We have to say the next window and the window after will be different. That’s clear."

While there is likely to be exits as a focus for the Blues, there could still be plenty of new additions to the side, including another midfield partner for Fernandez. One option that has been linked is Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone, who has impressed at 21-years-old.
With Chelsea linked, Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester United and PSG are also eyeing a potential switch this summer. Gladbach are said to have set a price tag of €50million (£44million) with add-ons included in the deal for the youngster, who has recently been involved with the France under-21s team.
It remains to be seen if the west London club will make their move for the midfielder, however it could give a new, long-term look to it from this summer.
