Chelsea agree to sell Billy Gilmour to Brighton despite concerns over midfield injury list

Chelsea have accepted a bid from Brighton to sell Billy Gilmour to Brighton in a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old was made to wait over his transfer deadline day proposed move after concerns about injuries in the Blues’ midfield, but the club have ultimately opted to sanction his exit from west London.

The Scotland international was dropped from Chelsea's first-team squad over the summer and spent pre-season working with the Under-21s.

Thomas Tuchel has had him training with the senior side since and included him in his squad for the 2-1 defeat away at Southampton this week - after Conor Gallagher was suspended alongside a long-term injury to N'Golo Kante.

It was felt that Gilmour's future was tied to the possible signing of Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez, but the Blues have ultimately chosen to accept a deal with Brighton nonetheless.

The two clubs’ owners are on good terms after Chelsea completed a £62million move for Marc Cucurella several weeks ago, with Levi Colwill heading in the opposite direction on loan.
