Charlie McCann encouraged by Rangers pathway as Ibrox kids grab their chance in cup win

Charlie McCann

CHARLIE MCCANN is confident the future is bright for Rangers as the next crop of Ibrox kids set their sights on first team success in the coming years.

The midfielder made his debut in the Scottish Cup win over Annan Athletic last term as he and Alex Lowry rose to prominence under the guidance of boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

McCann got another outing to his credit on Tuesday night and was involved in the third goal of the victory over Queen of the South as his neat flick allowed Scott Arfield to complete a comfortable win.

Academy striker Robbie Ure opened the scoring against the Doonhamers as defenders Adam Devine and Leon King were also pitched in from the start at Ibrox.

And there were debuts for Zak Lovelace, Paul Nsio and Archie Stevens off the bench on a night that the home crowd got an encouraging glimpse into the future.

McCann said: "It was a good opportunity for the boss to give people who haven't had the minutes a run out.

"To get the win and through to the next round is the main objective.

"We probably made it a little bit tighter than we needed to but we got through and that's all that matters.

"For all the B team lads and the [Under-18s] lads it just shows them there is a clear pass to the first team and the boss will give us opportunities.

"It is obviously a really positive thing to be a young player at this club at the moment.

"I think that (you will get your chance) is definitely the message. If we get our opportunities and do well then hopefully we do more and that's definitely what I am striving for anyway.

"It is obviously a positive thing to be able go out there at Ibrox and get a kick of the ball."
