Atkinson has interviewed with the Hornets twice already and as Charania noted, will meet with the team officials, including owner Michael Jordan, again next week for the third time.
Former Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts and two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike D’Antoni make up the other finalists for Charlotte’s head coaching search. New Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham was also in the running before opting for the West Coast.
Atkinson, who is currently coaching in the NBA Finals with the Warriors, is in his first season on Golden State’s staff after spending last season with the Los Angeles Clippers. Atkinson was the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets from 2016-2020.
