Channel 4's Vardy v Rooney given mixed reviews as some say show is 'so bad it’s good'

Tonight the first episode of ' Vardy v Rooney : A Courtroom Drama' aired on Channel 4 and many viewers were left conflicted as they weighed up what they thought of the show.

The drama sees real court transcripts used to bring the Rebekah Vardy v Coleen Rooney libel trial to life, and as the first episode started out in court, many fans complained about it just minutes in, while others claimed it was "the best TV all year".

Back in May, the infamous Wagatha Christie trial kicked off in court after Wayne Rooney's wife Coleen accused Jamie Vardy's wife Rebekah of leaking false stories about her to the press with a Twitter post which went viral.

Rebekah Vardy categorically denied the claims and took Coleen to court, however she then lost her high-profile libel claim in July when Mrs Justice Steyn ruled that the viral social media post accusing Mrs Vardy of leaking her private information to the press was "substantially true".

The actors who are portraying the WAGs in the Channel 4 programme are This is England's Chanel Cresswell, who plays Coleen, while Game of Thrones actress Natalia Tena portrays Rebekah.

Coleen's husband Wayne, who supported her during the trial by turning up at court with her everyday, will be played by Welsh actor Dion Lloyd, who many will recognise from his role in the movie Pride.

Marci Nagyszokolyai will play Rebekah's husband, Jamie Vardy.

Fans took to Twitter to talk about the first instalment of the two-part docu-series.

One penned: "Best TV all year". While another added: "This is just so s**t it’s brilliant."

Another tweeted: "Oh god, this is good tv."

One wrote: "Is this trash ? ... Yes. Am I watching ? ... Yes. Michael Sheen makes it OK to watch. Would you know that was meant to be Coleen or Rebecca if you didn't know ? NO."

Another said: "This #VardyvRooney is so bad it’s good. Does that even make sense."

The next episode airs tomorrow night on Channel 4 at 9pm.
