Taoiseach Micheal Martin announced major changes to the state pension system on the way which could offer workers a cash incentive to continue to work until 70.
Dr. Laura Bambrick, Head of Social Policy, Irish Congress of Trade Unions told Newstalk Breakfast that she welcomed the proposed changes but warned that "the devil will be in the detail".
In Ireland, there is currently no single retirement age as such, although 65 is generally regarded as the age most people stop working at.
