Cesar Azpilicueta helps Thomas Tuchel solve £95m transfer dilemma to hand Chelsea dream signing

Cesar Azpilicueta sees his contract run out at the end of the current season, and we've not yet had any news about the Spaniard planning to extend his contract with the Blues.

Speaking to the Chelsea website, the captain hinted that he would like to stay at the club, "I cannot say anything more than that I am really committed and have a lot of things ahead in the coming months and hopefully we can have a very good season."

But, whether he leaves or decides could affect which Sevilla player Chelsea could sign in January or the summer transfer window. The club has been linked with both Jules Kounde and Diego Carlos.

Jules Kounde could be the answer if Azpilicueta does end up leaving, as Kounde is similar in that he can play both as a centre-back and as a right-back, which is a trait that will come in handy for any side.

If anything, injuries this season has taught us adaptability is critical and could be the difference between winning and losing matches. The similarity between the two players will also give Tuchel a good idea of what sort of qualities he can expect from him.

On the other hand, there's the option of Diego Carlos, who is more traditional. Tall and dominant, he is Chelsea-esque and the kind of profile of defender that the club would like.

He's imposing and can hold his own at the back. He's experienced too at the age of 28-years-old and where Chelsea could lose that experience with Antonio Rudiger leaving - Carlos could be a great replacement.

Neither will come cheap, with Kounde valued at around £54 million and Carlos valued at about £40 million. It sure will be an investment and one that could hang on whether captain Azpi leaves or stays.

But, if the club wants to make a move in January, the clock is ticking. There's over a week left until business closes, and Chelsea will need to move fast as both players have been linked with various other clubs.

Or they can wait the situation out, see what Azpilicueta does come summer, and then hone in on what will be their best target. Either way, they're both great options that Chelsea will want to capitalise on.
