Derrick White has established himself as one of the most important players on the Boston Celtics roster. The two-way guard has emerged as an elite connector for Brad Stevens‘ team and will begin the upcoming season as Boston’s starting point guard following Marcus Smart‘s departure earlier this summer. With two years remaining on his current deal, White’s immediate future resides in Boston. Both sides appear happy with the current setup.
However, the veteran guard is eligible for a contract extension. According to Adam Himmelsbach of “The Boston Globe,” White and the Celtics front office have been discussing a potential extension, but there has been little movement in getting a deal over the line. The Celtics have until Monday, October 23, to extend White’s deal before the new season begins.
“Derrick White’s extension talks continue, but the deadline is inching closer,” Himmelsbach reported. “The Celtics and White have until 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 23 to agree to a deal. White has two years remaining on the four-year, $70 million pact he signed with San Antonio before being traded to the Celtics.”
