Celtic target Adam Idah on Norwich City bench for English Championship opener

Celtic's pursuit of striker Adam Idah continues to heat up as the in-demand striker features in Norwich City’s match day squad for their English Championship opener against Oxford City today.

The 23-year-old, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Celtic Park last season, scoring nine goals during a six-month stint, remains a key target for the reigning Scottish Premiership champions.

Earlier in the transfer window, Celtic had a £4million bid for Idah turned down, but recent reports indicate that the club has made a renewed attempt to secure his services - and it's believed an agreement was getting closer.

The urgency to get the signing over the line has intensified as Celtic prepares for a crucial season under manager Brendan Rodgers, who is keen to bolster his attacking options. The Hoops boss is currently having to rely on solely Kyogo Furuhashi to lead the line.

Idah's journey to the first kick-off of the domestic season comes after a brief disciplinary setback last month when he was omitted from a friendly against Hoffenheim.

Norwich's head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup revealed that the decision was due to Idah reporting late for a team flight. Despite this incident, the Republic of Ireland international has regained his place in the squad and starts on the bench for the away clash in Oxford, which kicked off at 12:30pm.

Discussing the ongoing pursuit, Rodgers told a recent press conference that he hoped to find a solution before the August 30 deadline.

"I'm hoping, by the end of the window, that can be done, with some others," he said.
