British Transport Police have released CCTV images of a man that they believe could assist in their investigation - (British Transport Police)

An investigation has been launched concerning a stolen suitcase which contained more than £4,500 of high-value goods on board a train from London Paddington station.

The British Transport Police (BTP) have released CCTV images of a man that they believe could assist in their investigation.

The suitcase, containing jewellery of a sentimental value, was stolen on February 13 on board the 9.32am service from London Paddington to Kemble in Gloucestershire.

Officers have said the suitcase was valued at more than £4,500.

The female victim was seen placing her suitcase on the luggage rack around 9.10am at the London station. A man was later seen on CCTV boarding the same train, taking the suitcase, and relocating to another carriage.

The suitcase was recovered by officers, but its contents are missing.

Anyone who recognises the man is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 2600019296

Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
