Caterham Seven Nürburgring Edition Is A Tribute To The Green Hell

The Breakdown

  • Caterham has created a limited-edition Seven to celebrate 100 years of the Nürburgring racing circuit.
  • Just 100 examples are to be produced globally, and are based on the 420R or 340R, depending on which market the car is sold.
  • Each car wears a bespoke Bilstein race suspension setup, optimized for the 'Ring.

Caterham has crafted a limited-edition version of its Seven sports car. Dubbed the Seven Nürburgring Edition, the car pays homage to 100 years of the legendary racing circuit after which it's named.

Just 100 examples are to be sold globally, with each version based on either a Seven 420R or 340R, depending on which market the car is sold in. What's not market-dependent is the bespoke racing suspension fitted to the cars.

Caterham has turned to Bilstein for help developing this unique suspension setup. The system was engineered at Bilstein's test facility and is optimized around the demanding requirements of the 'Ring itself.

Visual upgrades include Nüburgring branding on the car, a red roll bar, carbon front wings, and a composite aero screen.  There's more 'Ring branding on the interior trim, four-point harnesses, and an individually numbered plaque.

Each version comes powered by a Ford-sourced 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, good for 210 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. That mill is backed up by a five-speed manual gearbox. The entire affair, once assembled, delivers a 0-60 mph dash of 3.8 seconds, a top speed of 136 mph, and track day glory as the driving experience is nearly unparalleled.

Pricing here in the States starts at $56,595 for a rolling chassis. So buy one, break out your tools, and get to work.

What do you think?

Motor1's Take: Occasionally, a limited-edition version of an already small-batch vehicle comes off as a simple money grab. This Caterham doesn't appear to be the case, thanks to that uniquely crafted Bilstein suspension system.

If you have a need for speed, and the means to put one of these in your garage, it feels like a special tribute to an equally special racing circuit.
