Cat Zingano is not pleased with Cris Cyborg’s narrative as to why they haven’t yet fought for the Bellator title.
Since Zingano (13-4 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) made her Bellator debut in September 2020, a showdown with women’s featherweight champ Cyborg (26-2 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) has been viewed an inevitable. Yet for whatever reason, it hasn’t happened.
There’s been various explanations as to why the clash hasn’t materialized. Cyborg gave MMA Junkie her perspective earlier this week.
“Cat Zingano been running, been running for a little while,” Cyborg told MMA Junkie. “All the time Bellator talk to me, OK next is gonna be Cat Zingano and then change, and then gonna be Cat Zingano and then (Arlene) Blencowe and then no Cat Zingano and then Sinead (Kavanagh). So she always say I want to fight one more fight, one more fight next and then never ready.”
Zingano told MMA Junkie in June that she was “never offered” a fight with Cyborg, but she’s ready to make it happen. She did have one caveat, though, and that’s that she needed assurances to some degree of drug testing around the fight.
After seeing Cyborg’s latest comments, it’s clear Zingano still has her skepticisms about the current champ, and is keen to fight. However, Cyborg is currently occupied with a boxing match today in Brazil, and her contract status with Bellator remains unclear (via Twitter):
This b***h left to boxing right when I earned my title shot against her and says I’m running?! That’s one way out of drug tests you fucking juice box https://t.co/0htMvuPJQn

Zingano most recently competed in June, where she earned a unanimous decision win over Pam Sorenson at Bellator 282. Cyborg, meanwhile, battered Arlene Blencowe to a decision in her latest outing at Bellator 279 in April.
