Case against Idukki DCC president for vulgar remarks

IDUKKI: Police on Thursday registered a case against Idukki DCC president CP Mathew after he made vulgar and abusive remarks against Raji Chandran, president of Idukki block panchayat. Mathew made remarks when Congress conducted a protest march at Thadiyampadu on Wednesday.

In February first week, UDF lost the Idukki block panchayat after Chandran quit the Congress-led alliance and joined LDF. In the protest march, Mathew also threatened that Congress will not allow her to come to the block panchayat office on two legs. In a video, Mathew made sexist remarks in the presence of women party workers.

“A case was registered against him under IPC 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and IPC 509 (gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman). The case was registered based on the complaint by Chandran,” said Idukki circle inspector Jayan B.

Meanwhile, Mathew said that he will face the case. “The case is politically motivated and CPM is filing a fake case against Congress leaders with police’s help,” he said. TNN
