Caroline Dubois admits tracking down a fight with Katie Taylor before she retires is her “golden goose” and says her brother Daniel should seek a rematch with old rival Joe Joyce.
The 22-year-old goes for a world title for the first time on Saturday night when she takes on Mexico's veteran Magali Rodriguez for the IBO lightweight championship, just eight fights into her professional career.
The Londoner, whose paid debut only came in February last year, watched brother Daniel beaten by unified heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk only last month and wants him to now target a second shot at Joyce, who inflicted his first defeat in 2020.
Joyce's back-to-back losses against China's Zhilei Zhang have left him at the back of the queue for world honours but a second fight against Dubois, who is also coming off a defeat, could appeal.
Caroline said: “It’s a big fight for both guys potentially. The boxing world would want to see it. But all fights are hard in the heavyweight division and I struggle to watch my brother fight.
“Asking me as his sister, do I want the rematch? Probably not. But as a boxing fanatic, yes it makes sense. Joyce is coming off a terrible loss in the second fight with Zhang and I’m sure he will want to get a win.
“But Daniel can turn that defeat last time around. Joe seems confident he can carry on. Boxing is cut-throat and people were saying after last weekend, ‘maybe it’s time to retire’.
“But he got caught with a big shot from Zhang and that punch would have put a lot of people away.”
Dubois (7-0) hopes her own showdown at Bethnal Green's famous York Hall this weekend can put her in pole position for a shot at Taylor, if the Irishwoman regains her world super-lightweight belts from Chantelle Cameron in November.
Taylor, now 37, has only lost to Cameron as a pro and realistically has just a handful of fights left before possibly hanging up her gloves.
Dubois added: “We move quick, we move fast in boxing. There is the prospect of going up to super-lightweight and fighting Katie next year and that’s exciting.”
Asked whether she would also be up for facing Cameron if she retains her crowns, Dubois replied: “100 per cent. I’d jump up and fight her for undisputed. I definitely wouldn’t shy away from that fight and that challenge.”
Dubois revealed she hadn’t taken any advice from Daniel, 26, ahead of her first headline show, but cannot wait to be top of the bill at the traditional home of boxing in the East End.
“It’s mad! It is the Caroline Dubois show so I have to turn up, it does put pressure on but it feels great,” said the fighter, nicknamed Sweet Caroline.
“I’ve seen all these fighters headline and now it’s my time. People are paying to see me and it’s up to me to put in performances so that they keep coming to see me.”
