Cardinals fill roster vacancy ahead of practice in Week 16

The Arizona Cardinals had an opening on the active roster to begin Week 16. That is no longer the case. The team announced that it signed punter Michael Palardy to the active roster from the practice squad.

Palardy was signed to the practice squad last week after Blake Gillikin injured his foot against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14. Gillikin was later placed on injured reserve and Palardy was elevated to the active roster for the game on Sunday against the New England Patriots.

He punted twice on Sunday, averaging 48.5 yards with a touchback. He had a net average of 35.5 yards.

Kicker Chad Ryland also made all six of his kicks (three field goals, three extra points) with Palardy as the holder.

Palardy presumably will handle punting and holding duties for at least the rest of the regular season.

If the Cardinals make the playoffs, Gillikin would be eligible to return if healthy.
