A driver says her insurance company has decided to write her car off because it was so badly damaged in a car wash. Emma Eames says a large part of her bumper was ripped off in the automatic car wash at Morrison’s.
Emma took Vauxhall Tigra to the supermarket and says the wheel cleaner in the machine 'lifted her car up and ripped the bumper in two'. Emma told StaffordshireLive: "I was so scared when I felt the car lifting off the ground. I told the Morrison’s petrol station [staff] and they said that a notice said Morrison's was not responsible for any damage caused. [The staff member] called the manager.
"The manager created an incident form and gave me gaffer tape to make it as safe for me to drive as he could. He passed me the masking tape and I did the bumper myself.
"I told him I had to take my mum to get her cancer treatment in Derby and my car was too dangerous to drive in the state it was in. I've had no response from the customer service team or the insurance firm covering Morrison's. I've spent hours on the phone to them.
"After four days, I received an email from the Morrison's CEO’s colleague to say they’re looking into it and will be in touch. I spoke to my insurance company, because I need a car that’s road safe.
"They've said they want to write the car off and don't hold out much hope Morrison's will accept responsibility. If my insurance has to write my car off, then I'll lose my excess and my no-claims discount.
"I'm very unhappy. I'll never shop with Morrison's again because of the way they've dealt with my situation and due to the fact that I’ve had to lose my car."
Emma takes her dog, Roxy, in the car almost every day and uses the vehicle to visit her son and three grandchildren. A spokesperson for Morrison’s said: “We are in touch with the customer directly whilst we review the claim."
