Callous thieves dumped two sheepdogs in Dundee after stealing a vehicle and canopy from a farm near Coupar Angus.
The Border Collies were abandoned in Fintry on Sunday afternoon following the incident.
It is understood the thieves made off with the farmer’s pick-up without knowing the dogs were in the back.
When they discovered the animals, they released them before making off with the vehicle.
A police spokesman confirmed the vehicle was an Isuzu D-Max pick-up with Ifor Williams canopy.
Its registration is ST15WRT and it was stolen from the farm sometime between 9am and 4pm on Sunday, May 22.
The full police statement said: “[An] Isuzu D-Max pick-up with Ifor Williams canopy, reg ST15WRT, was stolen from a farm near Coupar Angus sometime between 9am – 4pm on Sunday, May 22.
“Inside the car were the owner’s two Border Collie dogs.
“These dogs were later found abandoned in the Fintry area of Dundee. Fortunately they were not harmed.
“If you have any information that could assist our enquiries, particularly if you saw the car or around Dundee, please call 101 or speak to any police officer.

“Our reference is incident 2932 of May 22.”
