Business activity in the North East fell in April as companies faced a growing range of headwinds, a new survy says.
The NatWest North East Business Activity Index, which measures change in the region’s manufacturing and service sectors, fell from a score of 50.0 in March to 48.3 in April as companies faced increased costs, supply chain issues and falling orders, as well as hits to global markets.
The fall was the sharpest recorded in the region in more than a year, with the North East the only UK region to post a reduction in activity.
