A man who stubbed a cigarette out on his then girlfriend already had a track record of violent behaviour.
Fethi Chebbi was jailed for 20 months earlier this week after a pair of brutal assaults on his partner. As well as burning her with a cigarette, the 36-year-old also dragged her around a room by her hair in another incident.
Liverpool Crown Court heard on Wednesday that Chebbi, who lived in Eastham, had not been to prison despite previous violent behaviour towards a partner. A previous incident outlined by Zahra Baqri, prosecuting, saw Chebbi attack his ex wife back in 2015.

On that occasion, he hit her with a wine bottle so hard that the bottle smashed. Ms Baqri said: “He assaulted his now ex wife. That offence was committed while intoxicated. He struck her with a wine bottle. It smashed on impact, leaving her requiring medical treatment.”
Chebbi received a 12 month community order for that offence but later also breached a non-molestation order granted by the family court aimed at protecting the woman from him. The violence shown by him has not just been limited to domestic incidents either, with him later being convicted of assaulting an emergency worker at Lime Street Station.
Ms Baqri said the incidents showed a pattern of behaviour from Chebbi which was particularly apparent when he was drunk. Earlier in the court hearing, she had described the circumstances in which Chebbi assaulted his new partner on two separate ocassions.
He had also been drinking heavily prior to both of those assaults. Describing the first incident, when Chebbi burned the woman with a cigarette, Ms Baqri said: “His mood changed for the worse and she recalls being held down, during which time he burned a cigarette into the skin on her left wrist. While he did this he asked her if she wanted to feel pain. He then stubbed the cigarette out on her.”
A few months later he then launched the second attack after going to the pub with the woman and her mother. Ms Baqri said: “He came down and flipped the coffee table over, causing all the glasses on it to smash. He then took a mobile phone she had in her hand and snapped it in half.
“It was in fact her mother’s phone. Whilst so doing he accused her of being unfaithful, took her by the hair and dragged her around the room. He did that with such force her hair extensions were ripped out.
“He then rained multiple slaps and punches on her.” After fleeing, Chebbi was eventually arrested.
Judge Michael Blakey sentenced him to 20 months in prison on Wednesday, something Chebbi himself described as “a joke” as he was led to the cells.
